This page describes the most common problems when connecting to irc.sorcery.net. You should consult this page before asking for help by e-mail.
Cannot resolve address/hostname errorsError messages like this indicate that there's a problem finding the address of the server you want to connect to. Check your internet settings, especially the name servers, or contact your ISP if the problem persists.
Disconnected with "Client check failed"To keep certain malicious trojans and bots from connecting we request a CTCP VERSION from all connecting clients. If your client does not respond to this, it will be disconnected with a "Client check failed" message. Try to disable any client scripts that might filter CTCP requests and try again. For the clients listed below, support was added recently and you need the listed version or newer to pass the check. | Client | Minimal version required | Remarks | | Ircle | 3.1f2 | | | jIRC | 2.8.2 b1 | | | Klient | 2.1 | For older versions see klient.com. | If you're still having problems, you can contact

. Try to include as much information as possible. Connecting works initially, but then suddenly freezesCheck your firewall settings. To prevent abuse from open proxies, we have to check if your computer allows anyone to connect through it. There is no way to check this other than to actually try to connect. Firewalls sometimes see this as an attack and immediately kill all traffic from our server, which will of course stop your IRC client from connecting as well. Proper firewalls will allow you to exclude certain addresses from this, please check your firewalls documentation. Killed for having an open proxyRunning an open proxy means that anyone can use your computer to connect to SorceryNet anonymously, therefore we cannot allow you to connect. First of all, make sure that you are not running an open proxy. If you're running, for example, Wingate or Apache with mod_proxy, make sure they're properly secured. Usually, the kill message will include a link to a page with further information, read that. It will not only help you determine the program that caused the problem, it will also give directions on how to remove yourself from any blacklists you might be on. When this is done, you should be able to connect again within a few hours. Killed for any other reasonThis means that you are currently banned from SorceryNet or caught up in someone elses ban. You should contact our K-line team for more information. Be sure to include the time (and timezone) when you were killed, your hostname and the full message you received. Connected, but unable to speak or join channels (silenced)You are caught in a so called autohurt. An autohurt is a selective ban to keep out abusers who have access to a lot of different addresses that are also used by legitimate users. A full ban would remove all of them as well, which is clearly unacceptable. Instead, we initially silence all users from these particular addresses and allow them to identify to NickServ. NickServ can then release the ban for specific users. If you do not have a registered nickname, or identifying to it does not release the ban, you can use the command /who 0 o to find an IRC operator and ask for help. If there's no operator available, you can also contact the K-line team . Remember to include your hostname and your registered nickname, if any. If you're still having problems, you can contact
